![]() The Ashen GirlA Poem by Tai Ryens![]() Oh, the Ashen Girl . . .![]() Oh how I wish melancholic skies bled not on the guilty hands of I for there amid the sleet shredding earth asunder was an ashen lass left to wonder
accustomed was she to ash-woven shrouds so often in truth, no different were these clouds she surveyed gloomy atmospheres for hints of light and did not leave even when one was of no sight yet no matter if thunders roar or cyclones twirl never was I to be abandoned by that ashen girl
alike to the heavens who've lost their place in the skies sunlight had done the same in the ashen girl's eyes I was no longer a storm but to her nothing more a mist of which licks the frosty skin of her wrist no more did she mind as she endured the agony nor did she cheer to the existence of me
slowly did she age with a heart scarred by cold that of which was granted by my soul presently was she in need of the cure crafted of the sunlight so pure and I was not the carrier but rather the barrier
reluctant was I to flee and allow a lover who was not me to serenade the ashen girl worthy of what I am not: glee at the price of a happiness that I could never be © 2013 Tai RyensAuthor's Note
