A Chapter by Jules

The couple kissed passionately in the dark doorway. The man pushed his girlfriend against the closed door and kissed her neck and collar bone. Her eyes widened in surprise and pleasure at his unexpected move, and then in horror. A giant wolf stood growling behind them and the girl screamed loudly.

“Yes, yes baby keep screaming for me.” The man murmured into her ear as he nibbled gently on it, kissing just below it.

“No! No!” she objected, pointing anxiously behind him. He turned round confused and stuttered,

“Wooolllffff….” They ran together screaming from their darkened door in the small alley way. The giant tawny wolf grinned well wolfishly at their departing backs. He set the young woman carefully down in the now vacated doorway. Changing quickly back to his human form he gathered her from the cold concrete floor and into the warmth of his arms instead.

“Kenna, Kenna please wake up its me Ephraim we need to get somewhere safe and I don’t know this city like you do. Please Kenna.” Ephraim begged her smoothing her rich dark brown hair from her pale face. She stirred slightly in his arms, groaning from the remnants of pain that still filled her body.

“Ephraim?” she asked huskily, reaching a hand out to touch his face in the dark.

“Yes my love it’s me.”

“I thought you were dead,” she whispered crying silent tears. He hugged her close.

“Nothing could part you from me, we’re soul mates. Not even death can get in the way of true love. But in the first place they would need to find me to kill me and I wouldn’t let them do that. The plan worked my love and we are back in the city.”

“The city? Really? Then we are safe aren’t we?” she sat up on his lap and flung her arms around him happily.

“We need to get going. Do you have an idea of where we could go?”

“Umm, I’m not sure but we could properly find a room listing for places to let on the wall of a coffee shop.”

“Then we should follow my nose. Coffee you say? Come on sweetheart.” He led her cautiously out of the alley way and they wandered down the road hand in hand trying to blend in looking like the happy, in love couple they were. Every now and again they stopped and Ephraim would kiss the corner of her mouth while take the opportunity to sniff through a werewolf enhanced nose. Kenna wished he would actually kiss her but he knew did and the small almost kissing he kept giving her were driving her crazy. Finally they made it to a coffee shop and Kenna and Ephraim both sat down exhausted from hours of running and pain. Drinking strong coffee to keep them awake and alert, Ephraim went through the list of rentals slowly; it had been a while since he had had to read. Kenna sat and watched him, trying not to fall asleep but one thing nagged at her. How had they escaped? How had he evaded the other member of the pack and her guards?

“Ephraim?”

“Yes love?” he looked at her questioning putting down the piece of paper, a few ads circled.

“What happened? I don’t remember how we got here or how the plan went. Did you escape the others ok?”

“Yes it was fine no trouble at all,” he told her, but she could tell by the way his eyes had clouded over that he wasn’t telling the truth and that something bad had happened. But she didn’t push for it he would tell her when and if he wanted too. Kenna sipped at her coffee and Ephraim sat there in silence, his eyes were closed but every sense was alert buzzing still from the kill. He hadn’t wanted to kill them but there had been no other way to rescue Kenna from the detention hut. Her guards had been skilled fighters but fortunately Ephraim had a trump card of being able to read their minds and always knew what was coming. Now though he hoped they could live a normal life that of The Touched in a small community he thought was being advertised at the bottom of the page. It read: Are you special? Find out if it’s true at the Touch of Life Medical Community- accommodation provided. An area code was listed rather than an address. He showed it to Kenna and she told him she thought it was on the outskirts of town.

“But why would we want to go there? It a medical facility.” She asked confused.

“No it’s a cover I believe,” Ephraim whispered back, “for a place where people like us can live in peace.”

“Really?” Kenna perked up at this idea, ever since Ephraim had told her about the Touched she had want to learn more about them and her abilities, this would give her the freedom to do so.

“Yes, now I think we should get going. It’s still dark so it won’t matter if I was to morph. Then I could carry you and run there. It would be the quickest way seeing as we don’t have any money and I don’t want to risk stealing anything.” Kenna nodded in agreement and they left the coffee shop as inconspicuously as possible.

Kenna clung to Ephraim's warm thick fur. It had been terrifying to watch him morph but when his tail wagged like a giant dog and he licked her gently she relaxed and ran her hands through his coat. Now she was clinging to his back as he ran through dark back streets as fast as he could before the sun came up and people started to wake. Kenna closed her eyes and lent her head against him and listened to his ragged breathing and fast heart beat. He stopped quite suddenly and Kenna had to hold on tightly as he skidded to a halt in front of a tall wire fence. Rolling off him Kenna sprawled in the long grass, adrenaline pumping through her at the surprise of his stop. She closed her eyes as he morphed and only opened them when Ephraim pressed a small quick kiss to her lips. Gasping and sitting up she stared at Ephraim, but he had turned his back to her and was inspecting the fence.

“We can’t get over this its electrified.” He whispered to her.

“What? That doesn’t sound good why would they have an electric fence?”

“I don’t know but we are going to have to follow it round until we get to an entrance.”

“Oh, ok.” Kenna agreed her tiredness evident in her voice.

“It won’t be much long,” he reassured her taking her hand in his much larger stronger one. She looked down at it and smiled. They set of slowly around the perimeter. After half and hour and not even the slightest gap in the fence let alone a gate Kenna was staggering and Ephraim hoisted her into his arms and carried her bride style. She was too tired to go piggy back again with no strength left to hold on. She fell asleep in his arms, head lolling against his chest as he kept walking steadily. He looked down at her lovingly, looking with concern at how pale she was and the dark circles that ringed her eyes. The last few days had really taken its toll on her. It had taken a toll on him too but nothing would stop him until he got her to safety. They had reached the more rural area of town now and he much preferred it less sounds assaulted his ultra sensitive hearing and his mind was full of the thoughts of other people. Ephraim was walking for another half hour and it was slowly sinking in how big the facility was. He could see groups of buildings in the distance but no people yet and he couldn’t feel any either. Then finally in the distance he saw a small hut by the fence. There must be a gate there he was certain of it; at least he really hoped so he couldn’t keep going much further.

“They are almost here.” A voice echoed through his mind and then disappeared as suddenly as it had appeared. Ephraim stood still and listened hard with this mind. It was if someone had knocked a wall down and suddenly thoughts came streaming into his mind. Pain shot through his head and blood poured out his nose onto a startled Kenna who woke up when he cried out. He toppled forward blacking out at the pain. Kenna was trapped beneath his large body as the one thing he kept doing was cradling her in his arms. The ground was hard and brutal as they hit it and Kenna yelped as her head hit a rock and she too blacked out too weak to fight against even the slightest pain.

Authors Note- Hello it’s me Jules I wasn’t sure what to do next so I made them all black out ha! No I know what’s going to happen next I just wanted to keep you waiting until you found out what happens to them by rambling on aimlessly about nothing in particular. Did you know I love pancakes all kinds on pancakes yummy! Chocolate cake, no cheese cake is the best and I am addicted to crisps all crisps don’t care what flavour just all of them! I’m at work writing this because I have nothing to do today until we get a delivery. I get lost of writing done on days like this but we don’t get many which is why I update so randomly. Shall I go back to writing now? I’m not sure if I should. Do all my readers have pets? I don’t have any pets :C because I am allergic but I love dogs! Especially border collies if you have one I want to know please :D right I think this is enough randomness on with the story!

All dogs are awesome but huskies are the best because they are the closest to the wolf itself.

i have two guinea pigs and a bunny, but my favorite dog would be the golden retriever, cause i used to have one when i was little, her name was tequila, but then she died when i was seven. i plan to get a little corgi or something like that and name it whiskey :) keep up the tradition.
