Chapter 14- Some not so nice visitorsA Chapter by Julessome not so nice visitors ruin the end of the perfect day
~ “I hate you,” Mel told Aidan in the car on the way home from their date, eyeing his tan enviously. “Aww sweetheart you know that’s not true.” She stuck her tongue out childishly. He retaliated by running a hand over her thigh till she shuddered and made him move it. “Tease,” she told him edging away to the opposite side of the car. “I’m trying to be good but it’s hard when we’re in a confined space.” Aidan replied with a grin. “Try harder, no bootie for you till after marriage. That’s the only time I would even consider it.” “Really? I’m glad.” She stared at him surprised. She had know she would have to tell him soon so he didn’t get the wrong idea but so many guys just ran away as soon as they realised they weren’t going to get any. She should have known he was different though. “I love the idea of you being mine and only mine, forever and always but like you said there is no rush.” No rush, she thought to herself. She had never felt such as rush before as when he had said those words. So possessive but caring at the same time. How had she found someone like him? They travelled the rest of the way home in comfortable silence weighing up the seriousness of what they had just told each other and how real their relationship had become. It was great to feel so secure about something in life. ~ Holding hands they walked to the door grinning happily even though it was now his last week at home. They had drawn so much closer together over the month and would be sad to part ways for so long while Aidan was on tour with the team. But they were certain they could make a long distance relationship work. Aidan inserted his key in the lock but the door just swung open on its own. They stared at each other surprised and concerned. “Ginny? Dougie?” they called out to the others. There was no reply. Panicked they searched the house. They found a collapsed Dougie in the hallway upstairs. His breathing was laboured and his eyes full of pain. He was clutching his still fragile broken ribs. “Ginny, they have Ginny.” He managed between laboured gasps. “Who does? Who?” a panicked Melody asked. “It’s the people who dad owes money. This is all my fault if I had just given him what he asked for.” Aidan realised quickly. “This is not your fault,” she told him sternly. “It’s your dad’s. We should phone 911.” An ambulance came quickly, the police less so. Dougie was whisked back to hospital, his lung collapsed again and yet more ribs broken and fractured this time. Melody and Aidan watched him drive away regretfully they had to stay. The police asked loads of pointless questions and by the time they were finished Aidan was restless and frustrated. He slammed the door behind them and cursed under his breath. Mel stood anxiously at his elbow. She grasped at his hand and they held on tightly to each other. “What do we do?” she asked him, “I don’t think they we’re going to do anything much.” “I know babes, I know you had grown close to her in the last couple of months and she is my sister. We will find her, we have to. I think lee and Roxanne should visit some bars again.” She looked up at him from where her head rested on his chest. “Bars? Do you think that’s a good idea after what happened to Dougie last time?” “I have a bit more experience fighting than Dougie. You have to when you play hockey. And I would never let anything happen to you or Ginny.” He hugged close and she nodded in agreement. “Let’s go then the idea of Ginny being out there with guys like that gives me shivers.” ~ Aidan drove like a manic for the second time since Melody had met him making her glad he didn’t drive like this all the time. It took them an age to find somewhere to park compared to the morning they spent looking for Dougie. Now they were doing something Melody could see the tension building up in Aidan that they weren’t doing something fast enough. “Lee, Roxanne,” the barman greeted them with a smile and the couple were surprised he had remembered them all these months later. “You remember us?” Aidan asked as they sat down at the bar. “Sure I have never a couple with so much love in their eyes. How’s the baby?” they all looked down at Melody’s still washboard flat stomach. She blushed. “False alarm unfortunately.” She covered “We’re still trying though.” She cuddled into Aidan's side. “Good fun that.” The barman winked at Aidan who grinned back. “How can I help you then? I haven’t seen that young chap you asked about last time.” He asked them. “No we found him thanks, actually we want to know if you have seen my dad. I think he might know something about the disappearance of my sister.” Aidan told him cutting straight to the chase. The barman stared at them surprised and everyone in the fairly empty bar went quiet. “You are Nicholas French’s boy?” “Yes what of it?” Aidan said surprised that he had realised who he was so easily. “This is bad. This is very bad. There are some very bad, very angry people after your father. I would stay well out of it if I was you and I AM going to stay well out of it.” “Does that mean you know something?” Melody asked fervently. “No, although I might be encouraged to tell you where Nicholas is.” He asked told them with a grin. Melody had never really noticed it before but he was a real slime ball and wanted nothing more but to punch him in the face. She looked at Aidan and by the way he had tensed up and balled his hands into fists at his side it looked as if he was about to punch him. But he kept his cool and pulled a twenty out of his pocket passing it to the creepy barman. The barman smiled at them happily and reeled of an address quite near Melody’s old apartment. Aidan and Melody gathered their few belongings and practically ran out the bar to where they had parked the car. “Ask for Nick Paris,” he called after them “or you won’t get anywhere.” “Aidan?” Melody asked him in the car having followed him out when he had enthusiastically left the bar. “Why are we going after you’re dad he doesn’t have her, he’s the reason Ginny is missing?” “Precisely!” he told her, “he will know exactly who it is who took her and where they might be keeping her.” © 2009 Jules
