Chapter 5- Ginny

Chapter 5- Ginny

A Chapter by Jules

everyones meet dougies sister ginny :D

"

That weekend came and went quickly and Melody had a much needed day off on the Sunday and slept for the day. Saturday had been disappointing with no Aidan again; Melody hadn’t been sure whether to be happy or sad. The week went fast too, with having to look after mad kids and extra waitressing and before she knew it, it was Thursday.

Nervously Dougie and Ginny waited in the car park. He was looking forward to seeing her again but Ginny was confused. Melody waved when she spotted Dougie and a young girl who looked very similar to him.

“Hey Dougie! You must be Ginny nice to meet you. I’m Melody a friend of Dougie’s.”

Ginny smiled cautiously.

“Do you like ice cream?” Mel asked linking arms with the shy 12 year old. She nodded and the group headed for a near by café. Depositing Ginny in a booth Dougie pulled Melody too one side.

“Can you look after her for half an hour or so?” he whispered to her.

“I suppose so what are you doing? And don’t be too long I have work in two hours.”

“I found a friend of my dads. I’m going to meet him and ask about my dad see if he knows anything. And I won’t be more than an hour I promise.”

“Ok be careful. I’ll keep an eye on Ginny for you.”

“Thanks.” Dougie smiled widely at her and then disappeared back out the door. Melody shook her head despairingly and went to sit down with Ginny.

“What did you decide on?”

“Mint choc-chip, cookie crumble and triple chocolate with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Where did Dougie go?”

“He umm… had to go get some things from the store. He’ll be back soon.”

Ginny frowned as if that didn’t make sense.

“But our brother took us shopping for groceries last night.”

“He must have forgotten something.”

“I suppose so. So are you Dougie's girlfriend?”

“No I’m a bit too old for him. We’re just friends. I’m someone he can talk too if he needs to or spend time with his sister when he has too run errands.”

“He’s not running errands though is he? He’s looking for our dad.”

Melody wasn’t surprised that Ginny had worked it out; she could tell that the young girl was very intelligent. But now she was worried to see tears in her eyes.

“I don’t want him too come back. I have a dad, my brother is my dad he changed my diapers and worked to help support us. Now he is doing something for himself and as soon as he goes Dougie turns his back on him.”

“Oh sweet heart I don’t think Dougie means to turn his back on your brother in fact I’m sure he loves him very much. But finding your dad is very important to him.”

“But I have this really bad feeling.” Ginny whispered the tears starting to roll down her face. Melody slid out of the opposite bench and into Ginny’s, pulling her into a tight hug.

“I’m sure everything will be ok. Unfortunately we just have to wait and see. Look here comes our ice creams.”

Ginny sniffled and sat up again looking a little bit more hopeful at the sound of ice cream. Melody passed her a napkin and she wiped her eyes with a grateful smile. The waitress left quickly once placing their ice creams down for which Melody was happy about.

“Thank you for being so nice.” Ginny said softly, using a finger to scoop up whipped cream.

“That’s ok I could have done with some good friends when I was your age but I never had any so I try and be a good friend to others.”

“Why didn’t you have any friends?” she asked curiously.

“I was an orphan and lived in a group home in a large city quite a long way away from here. I used to be very shy and scared of a lot of things, the others picked on me and I never got on with anyone well enough to call them a friend. I left over a year ago know and have to work a lot to be able to pay for rent and bills and food. So I still don’t have any friends, because I just don’t have the time.”

“Dougie said you worked a lot but that you’re flat wasn’t very nice. And you do have friends me and Dougie.”

“I’m glad,” Melody smiled warmly at the younger girl. The two dug into their ice creams and ate in silence and then waited impatiently for Dougie to return. But after an hour and a half later he still hadn’t. At two hours Mel was very worried and Ginny looked ready to cry again.

“I have to go to work now Ginny. Do you want to wait here alone, which I’d rather you didn’t do or come with me? We can leave my mobile number at the counter with a note for Dougie so he knows where to find us.”

The young girl nodded through her tears. “Yes please Melody. I’m sorry I’m crying again I’m just so worried.”

“That’s ok honey. Do you his number at all?”

“No I’m sorry.”

“Don’t worry. Come on let’s leave this note at the counter and if he doesn’t ring while I’m at work, I’ll take you back home afterwards and we’ll wait for him there.”

“Ok.” Ginny held on tightly to Mel’s hand and they headed to the restaurant, looking around for Dougie as they went.

god, dougie had better have a *really* good reason for being late. i mean, he asked a an unfair favor of melody when he knew she had to work. seems like he's taking advantage of her kindess, if you ask me.
ginnny seems so sweet though! and i love the part where she explains the part about dougie turning on her brother, it seemed really realistic :)
anyways, great chapter jules :D
