Chapter 4- DougieA Chapter by Juleseveryone meet dougie :D
~ Melody was half surprised when Dougie turned up at half 11. After she had invited him she realised how strange it had been and doubted he would come. “Hey Dougie come in I’ll get you a plate. Sorry the place is only small but it’s mine.” Handing him a chipped plate of steaming leftovers she sat down next to him and smiled. “Did you get here ok?” “Yeah,” he mumbled around a mouthful, “My brother thinks I’m at home in bed and because he’s packing to leave he’s in to keep an eye on our little sister.” Melody wasn’t happy he had come here without anyone knowing but a least he had family if he needed them. “What about your parents?” “Mum’s away on a business trip, as usual, and my dad left when I was 5.” She could sense his anger about his dad but didn’t ask about him. “Is your mum away a lot?” “Yeah, we don’t have a lot of money so she works a lot, although we have more than you,” he blushed, “I’m sorry I shouldn’t have said that.” “It’s ok I know this isn’t the nicest place. Carry on.” “Mum wanted the best for us and that means she’s always working. My brother or our neighbour looks after us when she’s not here. But now he’s leaving too, that’s why I was angry earlier.” “He means a lot to you doesn’t he?” “Yes he’s like a like a dad to me in a way, he’s taught me a lot. No not a dad just a role model. I have a real dad and I’m going to find him.” “Why?” Melody asked simply and Dougie stared at her. “Well… well… I want to know why he left us alone and never waited to meet Ginny. He left before my sister was born. Does he have more family? Does he even love us his own flesh and blood?” “What does your family think about this?” “My brother doesn’t know and Ginny doesn’t want to know. She is happy with things the way they are and hates change.” “I used to hate change too. I can’t really help you Dougie, only you can make the decisions you need to make. And besides I don’t know much about family. I don’t have one. But I do know that you don’t want to be without one so make sure you don’t risk what you have.” Melody yawned mightily and Dougie smiled sleepily too. “Thank you Mel it was nice having someone to talk too who listened rather than lectured. I should go now.” “That’s ok. I need all the sleep I can get thanks Dougie.” She showed him to the bottom of the apartment building to make sure he was safe. Just before he left he turned back and asked, “Can I bring Ginny to meet you?” “Sure,” Mel smiled, “I’ll meet the two of you in the school car park after 6th period on Thursday.” “Cool,” Dougie replied smiling and waving as he walked to catch a taxi. © 2009 JulesAuthor's Note
