A Poem by LadyGreystroke
"

i talk to someone who's been dead seven years

"

THIS MORNING I TALKED TO MY FATHER I SAID

-DAD

I SAID -DAD WHY DON’T YOU LEAVE ME ALONE HE SAID

-I HAVEN’T TALKED TO YOU IN SEVEN YEARS I DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN

I SAID -DAD YOU’VE BEEN BOTHERING ME FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER

HE SAID

-MY DAUGHTER YOU’RE A FOOL AND YOU ALWAYS HAVE BEEN AND YOU ALWAYS WILL BE

he said -you might as well give up i gave up you should give up

and i said

i said to my FATHER -I’VE ALREADY GIVEN UP SEE?

-I’VE GIVEN UP ON YOU

-I GAVE UP ON MYSELF YEARS AGO NOW THE ONLY THING I HAVE FAITH IN IS THE OCEAN

i said -DAD YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO TELL ME TO GIVE UP YOU’RE THE BIGGEST QUITTER I KNOW

-QUITTER QUITTER QUITTER

-WHY DON’T YOU LEAVE ME BE YOU BIG QUITTER

-WHY ARE YOU BOTHERING ME NOW I SAID TO MY FATHER

HE SAID -IT’S BECAUSE IF YOU GO TOO FAR YOU’RE GOING TO END UP JUST LIKE ME

-A QUITTER QUITTER QUITTER

Trying to make sense out of something senseless can be tough. The French gave up on it and invented Existentialism. To them life is absurd and reason has no place in it. I'm not sure I agree with that, but it probably sounds pretty cool to a bunch of guys in Paris sitting in a bistro drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes.

When I was a kid, a teacher once told me that the stars were infinite. I didn't believe her so I spent nights counting them. I didn't get very far. Sometimes when life gets too tough, I find myself counting the stars. Who knows, I might actually finish one night.

There's a LOT of violent emotion behind this. I'm no authority by any means on poetry, but I enjoyed this. Well done.
