Dream Box

Dream Box

A Poem by Nina Love

i locked my dreams away,

put them in a box.

i shut my dreams away in the dark

so they could not fade,

could not be taken away.

i left my dreams alone there, in the dark,

unchanged and unbroken.

i lived my life,

going through the motions

unfeeling, untrusting, unbelieving,

till you came.

you came into my life,

led me back when my heart

had run to its ruin,

gone astray.

you made me open my eyes

and i realize

my dream box had gone away.

feeling, trust, color

came back and flooded me,

i, who had shut my eyes to all but gray,

for my dream box had not been stolen

as i looked away

no, you unlocked that which i had forgotten, forsaken,

and set it free.
