Your Time to Shine

 Is anyone themselves?
I do not believe so,
we try to fit an image-
that everyone will know.

People try to be perfect,
to make others satisfied.
They buy everything they want and need,
with the media as their guide.


The world tells us-
what they think is "in"-
everyone needs to be the same,
well excuse me, but.-
I do not want to be part of your garbage bin.

Pefect skin,shiny teeth,
is this all we will ever be?
There is nothing wrong with who we are
and it should not matter what people see.


Well how do I act then, you ask?
Act like yourself!
Be and dress how you want,
unlike a trophy on shelf.
Would not you rather be a medal?
to be worn and shone with pride?
Everyone will know who you are,
not one who is to hide.

It should not matter what people think,
what they say or do-
we do not need them to tell us who we are-

just be you.

The rhyme was short, punchy, and kind of fun. But what you were saying was very pointed and well put. The loss of individualism is quite apparent, and I'm glad to see some people hanging onto it. Like this one.
