Lost

Lost

A Poem by laceyjane23
"

Be careful who you pretend to be...so that you never forget who you are.

"

I've lost who I am.

Became what others wanted me to be.

I'm learning to forgive,

and trying to forget.

Lost sight of importance.

Realized life's too short to have regrets.

Lost hope in the future.

Relived everyday in the past.

Learning to slow down.

To stop and take a breath....

I lost my wings,

but found my ability to soar.

Learned from many mistakes,

Yet kept going back for more.

Felt nothing but pain.

Blossomed from strength...

I've lost my voice,

but still have a way to speak.

I've fallen from grace.

Only to land on my feet.

Found a way to stand up,

when I was still down.

Through all this weakness,

I still have the courage...

To find who I was,

to realize who I am,

to love the woman I will become.

please ignore spelling and punctuation errors, this is my first attempt at a non rhyming poem. Its about finding the real you no matter how hidden it may be.

Words to live by!

Solid good sense in verse that would make a good poster reminder on one's wall!

Your pre-poem intro "Be careful of who you pretend to be. . ." is synchronicitous with a show promo spot on PBS that used the vintage Talking Heads song "Burning Down the House": "Watch out/you might get what your after/Smooth, baby/strange but not a stranger."

Good work!

For a first attempt this is an excellent write of worded wisdom. You've captured the concept "there is good in everything" very well in your contrasts, or so I felt.

The lessons learned in your beautiful poem help others to learn from your words of wisdom. You did a fantastic job with non rhyming, the flow is perfect and so is the length. I really like how you turned negatives into positives with each stanza.

This sounds like a woman that sees her equality of her own nature and the inner strength to hold on to it. Nicely put I enjoyed this.
