The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid

A Poem by laRagazza

With new shoes made of leather on her feet,
the Little Mermaid walks along the street.
She feels as if she's weightless, walks on air,
with shoes she split her mermaid tail to wear.

She smiles at every single passer-by,
that's nice enough to look her in the eye.
One thing she never learned about this place,
is you can never trust a friendly face.

Long nights bleed into the brilliant morning sun,
Darkening it's color from deep gold to dark maroon,
the color of her blood as she takes off her shoes of leather,
and tries to take her two new legs and stitch them back together.
