My Soldier

My Soldier

A Poem by Kymberley Dawn

I went to see you

get on the plane

I waited there till

it was out of site

I drove home

scared and nervous

fearing the worse

praying for the best

I get letters

and emails

I just wish I could see you

face to face

It's been a while

since I got anything

on the news

they say some soldiers are coming home

I see the time

and the date

I write it down

so I can go

Two weeks later

I go to see

If my prayers came true

to see if you really are home

I wait for everyone

to get off the plane

I see your friends

I didn't see you

I ask them

"where you are"

they say

"I should talk to that man"

I walk over to where they pointed

I ask him about you

He stands up straight

and Salutes

He hands me something

its wrapped up

I unwrap it

It's your dog tags

I hit my knees

crying

He tells me there was a bomb

and there was nothing left

I put it on

hold it in my hand

read the name on it

and hold it near my heart

I see all the families laughing and  happy

and I stand alone with no one

I knew I'd be alone

I knew you'd never come back

I'm in love with a soldier

forever till the end

He leaves in a couple years

And I'm afraid He won't come back
