Hiding behind a mask

looking around

staring at all the faces

that stare back at you

 

Frozen in fear

afraid to say anything

hiding from the world

hiding the real you

 

Take off that mask

wash off the make-up

be yourself

and show the world

 

Show everyone who you are

be yourself

because of everyone else

is already taken

I'm glad you include "take off your make-up" becuz this is my pet peeve. It looks so strange to me, when a beautiful person covers healthy skin, freckles, natural smile lines with JUNK (the worst is botox, a toxin injected to numb one's natural response to life!) I love that your poem has a nice balance of pointing out the mask and also showing a positive alternative in inspiring bold strokes (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
