The Cottage

The Cottage

A Poem by Keelia
"

Just a memory of a trip to michigan to visit my family.

"

Sitting quietly on the porch steps
Of my family’s tiny country cottage
I inhale deeply
Taking in the humid night air

I listen silently
To peaceful even to speak
Crickets sing a sweet song to me
A song of struggle,
Yet of peaceful contentment

So many miles from home
But in this moment,
I am where I belong

In the distance I can hear
Gentle bickering of the siblings I adore
A meaningless petty dispute
So light and insignificant
It’s carried away by the summer breeze

I am mesmerized by the fireflies
Bright, blinding beauty
Dancing aimlessly, care free
And then they fade,
As if they were never there

The memory fades…
As if I were never there

And life goes on
