"Marriage is a human right, not a heterosexual privilege." Marriage was thought to be strictly between male and female, but that is not the case in today’s society. Marriage can be defined in many ways, and in the truest form is defined as, “the process by which two people who love each other make their relationship public, official, and permanent.” Six states allow same sex marriage and ten allow civil unions. In the political sphere there are two groups that argue this concept the most: Democrats and Republicans. Each makes unique points, yet one is clearly more committed to equality, while the other fights with tradition. The definition of marriage is evolving " the world is changing - and the more people that know it the better. Furthermore, views on whether or not the states should permit same sex marriage, are best debated, disputed, and voted on by the two leading governmental parties, Democrats and Republicans.

On one side, Democrats take a stand for the rights of individuals through social responsibility, particularly when it comes to civil rights. This means that if the group as a whole can vote together, then the individual will surely prevail, and that it is not right for a set of people to withhold rights of the other by sheer individuality. The Democratic National Committee Party states, “We believe in the essential American ideal that no one should be constrained by the circumstances of their birth, and that each of us should have the opportunity to make of our lives what we will.” In essence it does not matter if a person is black or white, tall or short, or gay or straight; Democrats believe that everyone should have the rights that all people have. This means that any such laws that would prohibit gay marriage on a federal level, or even state level, are wrong. To think that sexual orientation gives the United States people and legislators the right to discriminate is preposterous. All were born on this Earth in the same manner, and all will meet the same fate at death’s door. We the people are equal, and the majority of today’s democrats have this mind set.

On the other side of the table, Republicans take a more traditional view on marriage. They believe that marriage is strictly between man and woman, which in most cases is true, but there is more to marriage than regulation or law. They believe that in order to protect the sanctity of marriage, only heterosexuals should be permitted to marry, but to protect something infers that one side has something the other does not, yet America prides itself in equality. Republicans go as far as saying, “States should not recognize gay marriage from other states,” which is simply unconstitutional. People seeking marriage equality never thought ‘How can I change the institution of marriage and ruffle some feathers?’ no; it is strictly about the personal right of marriage. Homosexuals are people too, they dream, sleep, work, have hobbies, own pets, pay taxes, live, and breath the same air heterosexuals do, and deserve every right as well. Republicans are known for protecting the rights of individuals in our country, but somehow homosexuals are left out of the group completely. If a person states he or she likes oranges, and another likes apples then neither person has any right to say, “You can’t eat that.”

All in all, there are two sides. Whether or not one should support same sex marriage is a personal opinion, but the decision to permit same sex marriage is divided by two political parties, and the real problem is that it affects people’s lives today. This is America " to be as one nation, under a union of states " and it is time to start living like it. There is not supposed to be this type of division between the people. Drop the petty differences and start treating people equally. The Declaration of Independence states rather clearly that, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.” It was never about what is wrong and right, and more about what is good for all people, and totally dismissing a group of individuals just because of their sexuality, is pure injustice.

very nice idk why ppl why heterosexual think homosexual dont deservethe same rights as them we are all humans and dont we deserve to be happy
