I Lost

I Lost

A Poem by Hunter Stone

I Lost

In a class,

a small frail looking boy,

Sits in the back corner.

He seems normal to a passerby,

but he harbors something he fears.

He questions,

all day,

and all night he questions

why he feels like he does.

They swirl through his mind.

Then suddenly his meager amount of friends

dwindle to nothing as he and they

pull away.

He is so strong.

Stronger than the men who lift tons of weight.

Stronger than those who push him down.

Everyday he battles.

With the dark,

the battlefield.

Is himself.

The prize,

is life,

or death.

He has survived for five long years.

He has started to stop caring.

About school.

Others.

Even himself.

Then he gave up.

He left a note.

“I fought the dark for too long.  I lost.”
