One Stormy Night

One Stormy Night

A Poem by kurohana

The sound of raindrops fills the room,

Lightning flashes as thunder boom.

The wind echoes as it plays with the tree.

Covered in blanket and embracing my knee.

Wide awake, afraid to fall asleep.

Trembling, thinking someone might peep.

Hearing the sound of the door creak,

Eyes bulged, stopping myself to freak.

Breathing heavily,

The room fell silent and time stood still.

I scream for the blanket was ripped from me.

Hands covered my mouth as I struggle to be free.

A black figure invaded my room.

One hand to suppress my screams,

And the other holding a knife for the moon making it gleam.

During a stormy night, it all happens.

I slept for eternity.

I admire the AABB rhyme scheme and concrete imagery, as well as, the elements of slant rhyme, and assonance within your poem. For myself, this work accurately captures the trepidation/ terror emanating from my fear of an home invasion, especially when the invader is concealed by the element of surprise.
