My Son

My Son

A Poem by Nautili
"

My son, once again, is not taking care of his diabetes (type 1) and is very sick. He is 22 and in denial.

"

I fear you will die

before me.

Primal, swirling fear

of seeing my golden son,

My only one,

Fragile flower in a basket.

Lying lifeless in a casket.

Long before his time.

Constant trepidation

He will be cut

before his prime.

Oh why can’t you see?

You are in denial.

And I am grieving all the while.

I can't imagine the sheer stress of being a parent. It's got to be akin to an eternal tidal wave. No, scratch that--many eternal tidal waves, in succession. I pray your son gets better, ma'am; denial can be a deadly dangerous thing.

Your concern for him is entirely warranted. What is there in this world more important than our children? Nothing. If only he could be you for five minutes, he'd understand. I hope and pray that he comes to his senses.

I pray for his recovery and your strength to take care of him.

Our kids can rip our hearts out. This is eloquent and heart felt. Peace. It is possible that your son will straighten out - boys seem to take a while to get that frontal lobe working right - but they can do it. My heart goes out to you. I have two male children....peace.

The heartache is felt... This touches the core of fear and sorrow. Any parent who worries about the painful struggles of their child, can truly connect with this piece.

It's tough when they reach the age when you can only advise and not direct. I hope he's better.

Very strong fears and feelings. Justified given your sons responsibility for his own health. So sorry your going through this and hope this experience changes his outlook.
