Apollo, with the help of King Jupiter, assigned the gods’ strategic positions

The constellation and planet gods first line of defense comprised:

Jupiter, Apollo, Sagittarius the archer,

Orion and Diana , (both experienced  hunters) and  Taurus the bull.

The last constellation meant to intimidate by

His vast size,  rather than his archery skill.

The second string: Hercules, whom nymphs wrote songs about his exploits fighting,

And Ceres, goddess of the earth, who feared  greatly for her realm.

Also steely Saturnus, with cold, hard anger pulling at him, as his planet’s rock-ice rings,

And lastly, Neptune, arisen from the depths of the sea,

to fight for the nautical world, of which he steered the helm.

His powerful  trident held high as a sign of certain victory.

Third line : Aries , a fierce butting ram, although in size a little lighter,

Cupid, (Venus's son!) also diminutive, but swift of arrow and wing.

Pegasus, who would fly quickly to undergird a fallen fighter.

And lastly Scorpius, with his debilitating sting.

This will end in an acopalypse!”Minerva, goddess of wisdom cried,

“Venus has us all in her trap, like doomed flies!

No good can come from us fighting among ourselves over her foolish pride!

If we lose this war, all life on earth shall die!”

Juno, Jupiter’s wife wholly agreed,

This seemed an impetuous war caused by

Venus’s  great need for approval and Diana’s venerable greed.

The fateful day drew nearer as the stars and planets aligned.

Mars had armed for battles, Bacchus, in dire shape from

Pre-celebratory drinking the night before,

Vulcan the talented  blacksmith, who had forged

All the well made weapons used in this weighty war,

But having made them eons ago for those of both sides,

He did not foresee this celestial civil war in his mind.

They had Fortuna, the goddess of luck on their side,

But Mars experienced military savvy, is on what he solely relied.

Janus, the god of new beginnings, doors, and gates.

He had long awaited  for a shift of power-

He did not give a whit about petty fears and hate,

But had long wished to uproot Jupiter,

And this, it appeared, was the destined hour.

Mercury, the royal messenger, after much inner deliberation

About the agonizing choice and consequential cost,

In the end went with the side he believed would win,

His working relationship with Jupiter,  forever severed if they lost.

Uranus and Gaia, parents of Venus,

showed allegiance to their daughter,

But Cupid, her son, not known to be

a fighter but a lover,

disagreed with this war,

So as a matter of principle he chose to not side with his mother.

Mars also was able to persuade Pluto and Proserpine

to come up from the underworld for this momentous time.

He assured them that those living upon earth would be joining them soon,

As unwitting, soon-to-be inhabitants of their dark and dreary clime.

So the gods of death joined the army to assure the planet’s end,

And the beginning of their long-awaited, anticipated,

Glorious  growth boom.

Sad but this end was inevitable!

"...anyone out there?"

Well it could be the beginning of infinite possibilities?
One never knows.

Oh, my earlier review took into account that Apollo is the son of Zeus or Jupiter and his daddy's favorite as well...I don't think those other gods want to mess with him much. lol

This is very interesting. There are actually two Aphrodites or Venuses...the one you mention here and the daughter of Zeus and Dione...yours is the goddess of spritual beauty and the other is the goddess of physical beauty and sex. I am Sagittarius the Archer, incidently. Born Dec. 19th... And the first temple erected to Venus was at the beginning of the Second Punic War when Rome fought against Hannibal and Carthage. My namesake...Quintus Fabius Maximus (Fabian) was a Roman general who defeated Hannibal by delaying tactics giving him (Fabian) the surname of Cunctator or "The Delayer". It was when the Roman's steered away from this wise practice in battle that they begin to suffer great losses. The legions were being controlled by politics other than generals...sound familiar? But anyway...my namesake lived around the time of the first temple constructed to Venus. Did I say I liked history and mythology? (laughing) Back then the Romans used to scare their children into being good by admonishing them with, "Hannibal is at the gates!" which would scare the begeesus out of them. Apollo was god of the arts and prophecy long before he was ever associated with the sun. So he's one of my favorites...also being the god of intellectual pursuits. And I may be wrong but I think he is the only god which had the same name in both Greek and Roman mythology. I'd have to look that up. Very interesting plot you have going on here.
