Sand in the DesertA Story by Kurerathis is in a guy's perspective :PIn the modern world, with electronics like phones and computers, people would believe that magical beings like witches, warlocks, and necromancers do not exist. Upon the truth’s behalf, they still exist, and live among our communities. However, some of them live in the most remote places on earth. How about I tell you the story of one of them? I am an adventurous person, traveling far and wide and deepening my perspective every day. During my travels, I discovered so many unnatural things. Fallen purple stars, aliens, and green jungle people are a few of them. I thought that nothing could shake my nerves with all that I had seen. Anyway, one day, I was traversing through the desert when I saw a house in the distance with green fields. I thought that I was hallucinating, but headed in towards the house for adventure’s sake. When I got close enough, I realized that it was a real house. A well was next to the little, but cozy home that was cheerfully enjoying itself in its own miniature grassy space. I went to the back of the house to get kicked in the face by an alpaca. “Who are you? What are you doing here? You do realize that you are trespassing, you know,” the alpaca said. There was a collar on its neck. “Uhh... I’m a person who might have a concussion because an alpaca hit me in the face? I was just travelling, jeez...” I felt a sharp pain in the back of my head and I blacked out. When I woke up, I saw a girl sitting next to me. She looked at me, but said nothing. “Uh, thanks for dragging me here, I guess...” I looked around me to see the scenery of a cozy little house like the one the seven dwarves lived in, but much larger. The girl smiled. I smiled back for the heck of it. “Uh, I’m Caine.” The girl nodded. I stayed there for a few days, talking with the alpaca, who was the only one that I could talk to. The girl never spoke once, though she seemed to enjoy my company. “Say, alpaca,” I said one day. “Why is this green field in the middle of nowhere?” “How many times do I have to tell you? My name is Sand. The reason why this place even thrives here is because the little meadow spell that’s here.” “Seriously? Magic?” I felt a smile tug at my mouth. “That seems a little bit much for me. Maybe an underwater spring not too far under here? Seems more logical to me.” Magic is the only thing I had never believed in. “Are you sure that you’ve travelled all over? You would’ve believed in magic if that’s the case,” Sand said. Sand’s collar’s bell tinged as she shook her head. The bell was gold. “Sorry, but magic’s the only thing I don’t believe in. If magic does exist, then how come we have so many problems in this world? Or witches flying in the sky?” A tingle came from behind me. I turned around to see the girl behind me. I noticed that she had a silver bell on a collar around her neck. “Hi, Sand,” the alpaca said. The girl smiled. “Huh? Your name’s Sand as well?” The girl nodded. “Well, then. For now I’ll just call the alpaca, alpaca. No problem.” I did not pay much heed to their names, but it did strike me strange that they had the same name. That night, I could not sleep, so I went out of my room to get a drink, when I noticed Sand and alpaca outside. Curious, I snuck outside. “It’s been so long since mother split us. It’s been so of empty. You can’t speak and I can’t do human things.” I saw Sand nodding. “Do you really think that kid can break it?” Sand nodded again and the alpaca laughed. “Of course, we still share the same mind even though we split.” I crept back into bed. It was nerve wracking, and I did not like it one bit. Split? What does that have to do with me? I tried to fall asleep that night, but despite my efforts to do so, I was not even able to close my eyes. Such an unknown mystery, and yet, I was too afraid to face it. I shamed myself to be afraid of something new. It meant that I was not open-minded, and it scared me. When I went out for a walk the next day, the alpaca kept staring at me. I stared back at her. “What?” Alpaca didn’t reply. She just stared at me. “Is there something on my face? What?” “You heard us last night, didn’t you?” My jaw wanted to drop, but I kept it closed. “What are you saying? What do you mean I heard you last night?” Alpaca laughed. “You’ve got guts, but you heard me talk to Sand last night, right? About mother, right?” I hesitated, but nodded. “Don’t worry, I was going to tell you sooner or later. Well, let me tell you what happened, okay?” Apparently, Sand’s family were evil people, killing people and whatnot. They were like the evil witches and wizards in fairytales. Therefore, when Sand was born, her family had despised her ever since. For punishment, when Sand was only seven, her mother separated her voice and her emotions into the form of an alpaca. Oh, did I mention that Sand’s mother has a passion for alpacas? The only way to neutralize the spell is to make Sand regain her emotions again. Me being the charming guy I am, it was no problem. It just took me two years for her to start feeling happy again. Everything went downhill from there. She regained the rest of her emotions within another year, and got her voice back within a month. Alpaca still stayed, though. She could still speak and still had her thoughts intact. I think it is just a side effect for neutralizing the spell instead of reversing it. After that, we decided to travel all around the world, but eventually settled down in Japan. Alpaca now lives in the Himalayan Mountains being a normal alpaca. We found some people in similar situations to ours as well. We were never alone, and the longer we lived, the more we grew, the happier we were. © 2012 Kurera |
