Past Ghosts

Past Ghosts

A Poem by Kurami

I have ghosts that follow behind me

They whisper in my ear

They always know what hurts the most

They know exactly what I fear

The things that I hold onto

The past I cannot change

The things that I have or have not said

Mistakes that I have made

They whisper small reminders

In effort to bring me down

Their presence taints the world

Their presence taints this town

Some days they are louder than others

Most nights I cannot sleep

All they do is chatter

Their words, they sink in deep

Slowly I grow stronger

One by one they walk away

And soon there will be none left

And I eagerly await that day

Awaiting when I no longer

Have ghosts from the past that haunt me

Awaiting when I no longer

Have a wound from past things

Much insight shown in this one. Everyone has "ghosts" from the past that keep us bound to them. The speaker here seems to be gradually dismissing them. Do not feed them with attention and they will starve and blow away. Good work.
