I am the self-consumer of my woes - John Clare

I am
yet what I am must bow
in the default of curiosity
to a society's embedded
eccentricities of mass consumption
before approval is acquired
to relate to your scenario

A farce of terminology
embroidered in the gaudy
get-up of communal evolution

What is mass consumption
after all if not the manifestation
of a swollen magnitude of
self-fulfilling selves

I minimize your window
and consider the conjecture of
anachronistic ebullitions
saturating one man's sequestered page
and another man's house arrest
of introversion goaded by accessibility
to wishful affirmation via public
portals of a paperless rapport

I wonder if my clunky automated
curiosity has paved the route
to those unprecedented scenes of
self-discovery you longed for

And I hope you weren't
an existentialist if you were
anything like me

Are you referencing yourself in these lines my friend? House arrest of introversion caught my eye and then of course portals of paperless rapport. If so, well then you already know how many of us feel connected to you, so don't fret!

As for the commentary on where society as gotten to as a whole, you are spot on in your philosophical musings, at least in my opinion. Over consumption is an epidemic that poses a far realer threat than a zombie apocalypse ever could.

Hmm, at first I thought this a rant on today's consumerism and the guilt associated with being caught up in that which we loathe despite our best intentions, then it seems to point to an individual, who can be identified with but still scorned, anyway, that's my take.

what a fine sense of language you have sir! too many dark and horrible humanity things so well said .. i can't pick anything favorite .. but love the last verse .. actually makes me smile a bit .. and this:

Haha I can play the entire movie through my mind, which can't be healthy...nobody should watch that movie that many times ;P I've been trying for years literally to write something based on that Clare poem, and it did not come effortlessly when I did finally do it...it took me about a day and a half, and were it not for this place, it would probably still not have been written about cuz this is where I got the inspiration for it...maybe that's obvious though haha Thanks so much as always E, it means the world to know that my writing speaks to you :)
