IN DORMIVEGLIA

IN DORMIVEGLIA

A Poem by kublakhan27

I. To sleep...

As if I needed affirmation

of the weekend from a mouse

As if I needed mutually

indecipherable dialogue

As if I need a hip social setting

when Insomnia gets off on my inside

As if I need a drink for the prodding

of my eyes or charisma for the charming of hers

As if we need a hotel or a bed

for that matter in Dormiveglia

II. ...perchance to dream.

Darling Insomnia

how you dazzle in your quilted

queendom of suction

Darling Insomnia

suck out the vanilla gumming

up my timid lungs like sugared venom

Darling Insomnia

I promise I won't burden you with moans of

fantasy-inflicted headaches

Darling Insomnia

let your sirrah latch his inhalation

onto your majestic bosom like an asp

Darling Insomnia

does subordination in my windpipe

do right by your despotic grasp?

First off … loved this work … an artistic masterpiece. The first section had an almost Downie feel to it and you know he's my favourite and then you nailed the bard too. First rate, Steve.

Insomnia is a demanding and fickle mistress... Well captured and shared.

Ah, to be half asleep...to drift in that "not here, not there" sort of place where everything is dreamy. However, that state can be mighty close to purgatory when all you need is REAL sleep....the kind that leaves you feeling fresh as a daisy upon awakening. Morpheus has been playing games with you, my friend. I will have a word with him...though he seldom takes my advice! :) Very well written....insomnia agrees with your muse if nothing else. Lydi**

Love this -- insomnia the despot! I now have a vision of my insomnia in Jack Boots with a weird little moustache. Thanks!

Haha Glad you enjoyed it K :)
The idea of being wide awake while in a dream brings up front and personal the cold reality of how invasive insomnia is to the one suffering from the inability to let go of the here and now. The video is a perfect addition to relay to the reader the malady that exists in the past, present and future - just somewhere in-between.
Your thoughts allow me to relate to what you and others are feeling when they are victims of insomnia! You are neither here nor there, just somewhere!

You already know, I love this one Benji, and I can so relate. Each time I read it, it comes to life yet again.
Shuffling thoughts in our mind, exhausted by probabilities and fate, the inertia of insomnia is deafening. 'Suck out the vanilla gumming', I've been telling you that for ages sweet boy! ha ;-) Stellar, now if it were only hypnagogic and could lull me to sleep... but it's too good for snoozing! Love it. xo

Exquisite in its emotional intensity, vivid imagery of
Depicting a Mental unease one's dealing with that
Disrupts serene slumber. Body exhausted, yet mind unable
To rest...most annoying when that happens!

The unique imagery you portrayed in this write...
As well as your author's note, reminds me of or when
One is also disrupted from sleeping due to astral projecting.
Amazing flow...Your gift for words is truly astounding,
Mr. Steve! Thank you sharing this!!!

Two of my favorite verses in this well written poem - I can definitely relate to this frustration, but writing helps..
It's wonderful to read your words again.
