THEIR WEDDING BANDSA Poem by kublakhan27
The constant treasures of their hands:
Gleaming golden emblems of a union that When formed Suspended time and breath and forced composure For a moment Long enough to turn the destination of the past Towards the journey of the future. The wedding band of one Becomes the seal of the other, The sentimental proxy of an occupied lover. I see the wedding band on one (a bottomless container to contain flesh and blood and in a way, sentiments) And I'm swiftly driven by my senses and My memories To the other, While I wonder if the blunt white lustre That teeters on the rim of each ring Is the force of its significance Breaking out, beyond the aura of the union it implies Inviting half-hearted eyes To see beyond their symbols, To see their union heart for heart Not only hand for hand. But wedding bands age Like the fingers they inhabit. All the hot water, abrasions and dirt Strive to mine away at the shine Of older days, The days of New for them And the symbols they exchanged. But symbols are not binding And neither are the rings to their fingers. They may be misplaced and unattended Like the memory of vows Suffocating underneath the errands of the grand scheme In person or in gold Perpetual togetherness is futile Yet their memories and magnetism Constitute a sure reunion Many times after union's rooting. The lustre of the rings persevere As do the owners. Presence they retain, Golden they remain. © 2012 kublakhan27Author's Note
