In 60 secondsA Poem by Kayla T
I dive under
Letting my skin embrace the salt water
Hearing the waves crash over my head
Feeling the sand squeeze between my toes
I feel invincible, powerful and grand
Surrounded by an allusion that I am King of this unknown world
I see the little fish swim past my legs
Above me lurks a shadow of the kelps mysteries
The bubbles coming from my nose rising up to the air
I think of what it would be like to be a fish
No need for oxygen just endless possibility in a water filled world
Your own creation of life just swimming
No struggle, no pain just water
No where to go
Just you in the open sea of endless possibilities
I feel the last of my air scraping by
I start to feel the drifted life
Where you feel as though the shore grows farther away
Farther then you'll ever be able reach
I use my last burst of energy to drag my way to the surface
Feeling the pressure and prickling of the sharp coldness
I arise talking a huge gulp of the air I felt as I had never needed
Though when I am under I want nothing more
But when I am above it I see the true wonder
It lays beneath the trees not the oceans
It lies just inside all of life’s beautiful mistakes
Life itself is the prize to be won
Though dipping your toe into someone else’s life can be fun
If you stay too long you’ll get pruney and you’ll be so glad it’s done
