David and the Pontevecchio

David and the Pontevecchio

A Poem by Kelly Rainwater

There is no unknowing you.
I believed I could be
thousands of miles
and several years away
and somehow learn
to unlearn
everything you are
that altered everything in me.
Yet here I am,
crossing the bridge,
passing jeweler after jeweler
who replaced tanner after tanner,
which only forces me
to recall the scent of your leather
jacket in that February rain.

About
Why do I write? I have no choice: it's all I know. My Mother says when I was 2 years old, I used to sob "I wish I could read!" And before I was in Kindergarten, before I could spell anything other tha.. more..
