Lilacs II

Lilacs II

A Poem by Kelly Rainwater

"It's time for your nap" she whispered
as she laid me to rest in her single bed.
The window was open half-way and
through it I could see her gardens
and feel the breeze blowing, moving
the curtains in a most rhythmic manner:

up, up, up (and hold) then down, down, down,
over and again, each time bathing me
in the scent of pale lilac.

I remember their texture: woven, yet sheer enough
to filter the afternoon sun. I no longer
remember the pattern, yet I know they carried me
to cherry-blossomed China on boats with no sails
and glowing lanterns lighting my way.

Up, up, up (and hold) then down, down, down,
over and again, each time bathing me
in the scent of pale lilac.

My only gripe would be the phrase " laid me to rest'
unless it's an intentional death reference.
lol
Otherwise this is yet another almost magical childhood memory, something that seems to posses a significance that the mind tries to figure out.
I love it.
Thank you
Namaste'

Why do I write? I have no choice: it's all I know. My Mother says when I was 2 years old, I used to sob "I wish I could read!" And before I was in Kindergarten, before I could spell anything other tha.. more..
