Power Outage

Power Outage

A Poem by Kelly Rainwater

Ice cream and
Sparks in the dark,
courtesy of candlelight.
Cold hearts, chocolate hearts
melting on my tongue,
one by one.
Windows open,
breezes carrying the
powerless sounds
of a town going to sleep:
crickets and dogs and
a car or two.
A precious hour to contemplate
the symbolism of
chocolate hearts
melting on my tongue,
one by one.

" cold hearts, chocolate hearts melting on my tongue"
That line puts the whole poem in perspective in an instant.
From that line on the reader is yours
Excellent job.
One question...the last " chocolate" would you consider replacing it with another word that would add to the symbolism?
Fragile hearts, icebound hearts, disposable hearts?
None of those are right, but I know you could find the perfect word if you decide to try.
Just a thought, always do what feels right.
Another great read
Thank you
Namaste'
