Desert Meets Ocean

Desert Meets Ocean

A Poem by Kelly Rainwater

Where your desert meets my ocean, there will I meet you.
Come dip your feet in my waters: they are warm.
Let me crash upon your shore,
my power carrying you to worlds you’ve never known.
With every ebb and flow I touch you:
The sands of your being are my foundation.
Cradled in your basin,
you give me form, you give me life.
There is no escaping you.
My waters retreat, carrying with them your essence,
the grains of your being.
I feel you against me, inside me, surrounding me.
The sands of your desert. The water of my ocean.
I am unable to separate myself from you:
I flow over you, again and again;
Where you end, I begin.
I have met you, where your desert meets my ocean.

Why do I write? I have no choice: it's all I know. My Mother says when I was 2 years old, I used to sob "I wish I could read!" And before I was in Kindergarten, before I could spell anything other tha.. more..
