This is what becoming feels like

This is what becoming feels like

A Poem by Katie Rose

The itch/ the twitch/ the humming -
the fleeing,
the running
from oneself,
the fear that the muchness
you have come to know
will be too great for someone else to bear;
this is how you find yourself,
how you then lose yourself,
understanding the need
is no longer there,
how the laughter
begins again
despite the nights you thought it wouldn’t,
how holding hands doesn’t hurt so much,
how now you can’t get enough,
of the opening up -
of fists that should be palms -
of hearts grown heavy from
trying to be strong.
And now the sun doesn’t seem wrong:
this.
This is the process of becoming.

I'm glad to hear that the "fear of muchness" is overcome by the laughter. The fists should always be open palms. And the little rhyme at the end ties it up nicely (:
