Surrounded by so many yet so alone

Surrounded by so many yet so alone

A Poem by Kshitij Gupta

Surrounded by so many yet so alone,
For they've never really been there when you need them,
They expect you to be by their side in their moments of mayhem.

"What happened?",they ask
"Is everything okay?",they ask
But they never bother to see beyond the mask,
They fail to see beyond the fake smile and the momentary laugh,
They have always seen your sane half.
Everything they think they see,
Isn't everything there is to you.

They don't care, they don't have time to spare,
They don't see you sigh, they don't see you cry,
They don't see you frown, they don't see you falling down,
They really don't care, they don't have time to spare.

Friends is what they call themselves,
They vow to stand by your side,
But leave your back when life begins to slide.

No matter how many of them you've known,
At the end of the day, surrounded by so many yet so alone.

Poem the first haha.
PS: A few lines kinda sound more depressing than they actually are.

Einstein said something like "It's strange to be so well known and yet to feel so alone." I particularly like the repetition of the first line in the last line. I also really like your idea of the sane side; it takes a special kind of friend to share the insane side with.

Yes indeed. Thank you :)
This represents so many peoples' lives; I feel that you definitely brought to life the emotions running high for the average person in this cruel world. Wonderful piece!

Awesome first poem! As long as you are writing what you feel... passionate about it then it's honest and it doesn't matter who likes it.. as long as you do there will be people that understand your words and some that disagree... I liked it... good work!

For your first ever attempt this says you have a feeling for writing and taking a subject and all of its emotion and expressing it. Rhyming poetry is not the only form and at times people force the poem to the rhyme which lessens the beauty of the piece. Try free verse which is like speaking but also has a 'melody' but does not demand rhyme.

No free verse is like normal speech but with a rhythm. Just try and see what happens.

i know the feeling

But i have known friends that read the air around me and run to my rescue
Loyal as a partner yet i was never for anyone

Good write
I would say it could apply to some people who claim they love me
And i am not sure about that

Great work here

Sure thing!
You find out who your real friends are when you are down.
your poem progresses well however,
in stanzas two and three there is to much repetition of phrases these stanzas need rearrangement.
I can see the effort that you put into this poem. B+
