Surrounded by so many yet so alone

Surrounded by so many yet so alone

A Poem by Kshitij Gupta

Surrounded by so many yet so alone,
For they've never really been there when you need them,
They expect you to be by their side in their moments of mayhem.

"What happened?",they ask
"Is everything okay?",they ask
But they never bother to see beyond the mask,
They fail to see beyond the fake smile and the momentary laugh,
They have always seen your sane half.
Everything they think they see,
Isn't everything there is to you.

They don't care, they don't have time to spare,
They don't see you sigh, they don't see you cry,
They don't see you frown, they don't see you falling down,
They really don't care, they don't have time to spare.

Friends is what they call themselves,
They vow to stand by your side,
But leave your back when life begins to slide.

No matter how many of them you've known,
At the end of the day, surrounded by so many yet so alone.

PS: A few lines kinda sound more depressing than they actually are.

Einstein said something like "It's strange to be so well known and yet to feel so alone." I particularly like the repetition of the first line in the last line. I also really like your idea of the sane side; it takes a special kind of friend to share the insane side with.

Not bad at all. This has a great flow to it. And the message, well yes, there are those who say they're friends, but who never really take the time. Of course, I think as adults, we are less likely to be open with people, so it's harder to break into the inner circle of trust.

Yes, thanks :)
This is quite a good piece, the last lines explained a lot about the poem. I like how your creativity reflected a saddening thought about reality, or perhaps, we share the same thought about this matter.

Sorry for the late reply tho, been pretty busy lately haha.
Kshitij: My goodness your first poem and it's fantastic!! You have a load of talent. Very well done. The flow wasn't perfect, but so what, the content was so packed full of emotion and truth, I truly love the poem. Friends, true friends will never leave you alone. The images of sadness is vivid and hope your friends read this and think...the character is you! Great work. Dale

Thank you for reviewing :)
I know this feeling on a personal level. i have to listen to so many 'friends' tell me all about their boo hoos and I try to help them feel better yet the one time I actually reached out and asked for help I got a 'It's only hormones. Chill.'

I have yet to find any 'real' friends and, call me negative if you will (I won't believe it), but I wonder if 'real' friends even exist.

Congratulations on writing a poem that hits the mark for so many people. Look. See up there? You made me rant. :D That means it was awesome.

Keep Dreaming ^^
