Little Girl

Little Girl

A Poem by Krys

Pretty little girl crying in bed

Who, my darling, made you oh so sad?

Was it the man across the street who gazed upon you with unwavering eyes?

Or the girl in class whose laughter you despise?

Was it sweet little Timmy who broke you heart?

Or perhaps your mother said you weren’t very smart?

Maybe it’s that the walls are closing in

And you try to slow down but your head starts to spin.

Your fingers tremble and your breath comes quick;

You’re frightened and alone and about to be sick.

All the people around judge and call you names

But there’s no escape from Life’s cruel game.

So you fall on your bed and quiver with fear

And hope that someone’s listening to the prayers you whisper in their ear

‘Please,’ the child sobs ‘Let it not be true

I’m still so young and have much more to do.

If there’s anybody out there who ever gave a damn

Please don’t forget how I got the way I am.

I’m trying so hard and I was doing so well

Why is my life an eternal Hell?

I’ve come so far to be pushed back down

I can’t swim much longer in all this weight I’ll drown.’

So the little girl cries all alone in her bed

Tomorrow they’ll find her with a bullet in her head
