The Legendary PairA Chapter by K.S. McClureKelsey was worried about Chihanna. Ever since she had told Chihanna about her dreams, she had refused to see Kelsey, or anyone else for that matter. Everyone was worried. Derek was the last one who had seen Chihanna before she isolated herself.
Its like she's completely ignoring us, Kelsey thought.
Kelsey rose from her seat. She would find out, whether anyone else was brave enough or not.
She stood in front of Chihanna's door, indecisiveness taking over for only a moment before she knocked. There was no answer. She knocked, more like banged, again. This time, a grumpy sounding voice was heard through the door.
"I thought I made it clear. NO VISITORS!"
"I don't care! You've been neglecting your duties for the last three days!" Kelsey shouted back.
Kelsey could tell this had made Chihanna mad. There was a clashing sound, then angry stomping as Chihanna made her way to the door.
"How dare you..." Chihanna opened the door in mid-sentence, "insult me like that." She stopped short when she saw Kelsey.
"I had every right. You are the Fire Sage, and as such should remember your duties. Going into isolation like this without a word to anyone does not become you status. Its a shame. The people inside this mountain look to you for guidance in this time of trouble, and where do you go? You lock yourself in your room without a word to anyone!"
Chihanna gave a small smile. "I hope you remember those words many years down the road. Come on in."
Kelsey stepped in to Chihanna's apartment once again, only this time it was much different. The neat, tidy room that had been, was now replaced by a pig sty. It was a wreck! Pictures on the floor where they had fallen, furniture overturned. Chihanna herself was not in much better shape.
"What in the world happened here?" she asked.
"Nothing you need to concern yourself about," was Chihanna's reply. "Have a seat anywhere you can find one." Kelsey seated herself on the one table that was set right side up. Chihanna sat on the floor."
"I admit," Chihanna said with her head i her hands. "My actions have been rather disgraceful, but I have been...well, I'm not exactly sure what to call what I have been these last few days."
Kelsey was inwardly wondering whether Chihanna had caused this mess herself, or if someone had vandalized her room.
"Well, why dont you tell me about all thats been going on." Kelsey said in a polite tone.
Chihanna sighed in resignation. She had known all along this would happen, she just didnt think it would have been so soon.
"Well to start," she hesitated," those dreams you have been having, arent mearly dreams at all. They are the new individuals born into our division. Every time you have a dream, you must immediatley write the name and location of the children down upon awakening. When you came to tell me of your dreams I became upset because now that the Sage Power is passing to you, it means my days are numbered."
Kelsey gasped. No wonder Chihanna had been upset!
"The Sage Power is a life-time abilty granted to the Sages and the occasional mysic. Dont worry, I'll explain that later. It allows one to do certain things with their power that no one else can do, as well as "see" when new members are born." When the Sage Power leaves one Sage and flows to the next, it usually means that the older Sage's days are at an end. However, there have been a few exceptions to those rules. There are times when the older Sage has not died, but has lived on without any ability at all."
"So there is a possibility that you may not die?" asked Kelsey.
"Yes, but it isnt very likely. Only about 1 in 1,000 Sages live after their powers are gone."
"Do you know of any Sages that havent died?"
"Not in my lifetime Kelsey. The last died nearly a hundred years before I was born."
"I see." was all Kelsey could say. "What about the mystics? What exactly are they?"
"The mystics are are the few among the Ninabi who can control not opne, but all five elements. They are so rare that they are actually considered a legend. But as you will soon find out, us Sages know different. I believe that I have told you that when you become a Sage you know certain things without having to be told. This includes our past. As the Ninabi Fire Sage, I have the memories of all the past Sages, except for a few who presided at the beginning of our people. They somehow erased their memories so we would not know how we came into existence It is the same for all the Ninabi Sages. our memories all stop at the same point in our history. The knowledge is continually passed on to new Sages. How this is accomplished, I have yet to figure out. It was probably one of the things the Firsts didnt want us to remember. "The Sages have memories of the mystics. That is how we know them to be real, not just legends. But there has not been a mystic since the mountains separated a thousand or so years ago. We had believed that the specific gene required to be a mystic had been lost, but you proved that wrong when you came with your dreams. "Since a mystic can manipulate all elements, no one Sage can determine when they are born. The only way to tell if a mystic has been born is too look for their protector. The Protector is always of the opposite gender, and is already established in a division. You tell whether or not they are the legendary pair by whether or not you dream repeatedly of them. You have been dreaming quite frequently of Derek and a small child named Aurume. Derek is not the Mystic because he came to us when I still had all Sage Powers. he is however, the Protector."
"Also, since you are now gaining more Sage Powers, it is time you learned your role in our society."
