Light

Light

A Poem by Kristina Yoder

They say that absence of
light
is darkness-
but I wonder if light
cannot cease,
just refuse to be
harnessed.

You left and
took your light-
is it still bright?
or
has it gone dim?
A flame so slim.

I feel it still when I remember
the ways you made me feel,
the carbon and burning embers-
but a memory of light is just
pain wrapped up
tight.

If a tree falls in the forest
without anyone there to hear it,
it still makes a sound
just as
a light still shines even without
anyone there to feel it.

Keep shining, little light.
