Outer Space

Outer Space

A Poem by Kristina Yoder

The space that once was between us,
organic and full of possibility,
has been colored by a lack of
fragility on your part - not mine.
By stepping back, you've declined

Your attempt to flee
and protect
has created rot
and contempt.

The space that used to be a
secret haven for you, for me
is now a wall-
The cinder ash that quenched
my desire - born from fire
is now only blocks you keep
stacking higher and higher.

Fear of loss
fear of pain
fear of too much change
now reigns in your heart
no longer beating for our part

I'd say goodbye
but you're already gone-
protected by the space
that went so wrong.

So long.
