Motherly

Motherly

A Poem by Kristina Yoder

I reach out to you and am met with air
the unconditional love I've known when
in despair-
not there.

My heart still beats, but so damn raw-
my shield, my mother is gone,
gone.

The one and only fire you kept going
lost its flame and with it,
the knowing
that I will be ok- come what may.

So here I sit- searching for a way
to somehow find your words,
the ones you would say,
to keep me here and safe with the knowing
that I will be ok-
I will be ok.
