Ocean

Ocean

A Poem by Kristina Yoder

The grief tsunami

hides in its own shadow, growing, lurking

ready to pounce-

It’s unaffected by light

It just moves to the the left or right.

It fills up my system

flushing out any notion

that there isn’t

this grief ocean on a mission.

I’m grateful for it-

the expelling of disbelief

to help construct my new reality

where eventually there’s relief.

Grief does soften in time . It’s a journey and it has to run its course. You express grief as a tsunami. Yes, that is exactly what it can be. Overwhelming and frightening in its all consuming power. You convey your subject matter well here

Your poem touches so deeply on the day my/our sister died near thirty years ago. What you've expressed so finelyt yet sensitively are among the most deeply felt words ever put tp paper or screen . Grief is for those mourning, yet the relief of the one passed pain and more. Mourning might not be reserved for a time of day or year but for that moment when darkness hits, lurks and lasts til something takes over.. until the next time. This is such a fine and gentle mind.

Grief cannot be repressed. It must be allowed to run its course before any "new reality" can make its appearance
