Winter RisingA Poem by Kristina Yoder
Beyond the slush, the bitter cold,
there's a whole new world about to unfold. The trees make way for longer rays, their leaves a curtain, falling away. Making space for low-cast spotlights, illuminating these shorter days. Which bring with it the chickadee, puffing his feathers and singing for me, above the quiet stillness, a settling of the land. Nature gifting us with pause and less demand. And snow, landing perfectly, a glistening dance of sunlight and ice making you forget your plans. And though the wind picks up and the naked branches sway, keep it close, it's Earth's reminder that everything is not here to stay. Winter's rising, so let's slow down. Look closely now, beauty abounds. © 2021 Kristina Yoder |
