Familiarity

Familiarity

A Poem by Kristle Marfori

I know this path!
Our love lingered here,
Waiting for us to return.
This is where we fell in love so completely,
do you remember?

We were warned not to be together,
By Many.
She said,
That we would remember her whenever there was a full moon,
But I only can remember the way I felt about you.

You left me.

It was a combination of my temper riddled with your inability to understand.
But maybe, I would not have been so angry
If I let you understand.
What's captivating is how Life forced us to Bleed,
And then threw me across your back
You carried me
The rest of the way
You cried for me
And I clung harder.

I came back.

I could not be without those calloused hands,
The ordinary things that made you special,
The way that water trickled down your body
In the shower
The ways in which you were always late for everything.

And now,
Here we are again,
Admiring the intelligence of the other.
I am free to express myself
Where my mind is not bound by what Many thinks.
Where my talks on the energy of the world do not distract you
Where I can write...
I've always written,
since I was a child.

We're together now.
You tell me you've learnt to stay.
I believe you.
You see, my love
You never were a good liar.
