Salutation

Salutation

A Poem by K.N. Lorenzen

SALUTATION

They shalln’t scare you off, My Dear!

No, they shall not.

Now

Lift your pale palms before the world

Prepare for perpetual salutation

Of the proud hands at hand

Greet this day’s governors

And

Do not give the world thy frowns and growls

Get in line for prominent encounter

 The proud, promised, preliminary handshakes

You have been preordained to greatness

(I thought I’d let you know)

So

Be patient, placid, prudent and proud

Thy shivery shiny bones shall sprout

Thy leaky heart shall be thoroughly fixed

The gold-frame, merrily-accompanied

No,no,no,no,no!

They shalln’t scare you off, My Dear

Sneering women at subways and city-halls

The snoring of city-men, seeping through

Leaky, thin city-walls

Regard!

And

Greet!

Silent, reserved receptionist

Remain modest

In the vast unparalleled modesty

Of the wind

Which moves

With varying caresses on your skin

Stay stoic, still and strong

And let the world unfurl its staggering salutations

In your clamp wind-clutched palm

NOS VICTURI
MORTUOS SALUTAMUS

NOS VICTURI

MORTUOS SALUTAMUS

WE, WHO ARE ABOUT TO LIVE

SALUTE THE DEAD

WE, WHO ARE ABOUT TO LIVE

SALUTE THE DEAD

It's a great tribute you given into the words to all of 'em who buried into the arms of earth. The theme's very inspiring...I love the ending!

Just returning a read request, and this has great rhythm and motivation moving between the words, good read, sounds almost like a song or rap. :)

Lovely use of alliteration...it gives the poem a chug-along feel that put me in mind of Robert Burns and his melodic writings...great work.

I would not have read this poem at length had you not asked and did I not respect and admire the poems you have shared before. But I did, and printed it off, and puzzled, and scratched my head like it was infested with lice-like cliche's. Nothing. But I'm not a quitter and this horse has won before so why am I not getting this? Then the dim lightbulb exploded like a (to continue the cliche' illustration) flashbulb.

Thanks. Thanks for a picture of the beginning, a glance at the middle and a hint of the end. Thanks for an optimistic expression of hope that blends without stitch or seam into faith. Thanks for the warning caution about whips and scorns and proud contumely yet to come. Thanks for your patience.

A remarkable look at what constitutes true life ... lived with quality and equanimity ... though silent and unto itself ... for itself ... and its gentle affirmation of the glorious high. Nice.

Not sure if these are greetings at the gates of heaven or hell's wrath playing a bad joke on the soul. Had to read this one over again to get the full effect, like being smacked in the face of delusions. Excellent read K.N.

Amazing use of words and thoughts.
"Remain modest
In the vast unparalleled modesty"
I like the above statement a lot. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
