Last Dash AwayA Poem by kristalrutha poem about the Holocaust. They knew that they must hurry Nervous ones began to scurry The guards were turned away So they went on their way First to the field to hide behind piles of dirt, And then to the next hiding spot, always staying alert Next a mad dash to the secret holes they dug by the fence Trying to stay focused with the situation so intense, But one paused just long enough for a guard to catch a glance Standing there frozen in fear as the guards made an effortless advance Some tried to run, but were eventually caught Standing there waiting for their punishment, they heard the shot Mechanically, they whipped around to see whose fate Had been sealed by the guard’s haste horrific hate Their eyes darted down where they found Sprawled across the ground A very dear friend, the light of their day The very joy of the camp there lay Helplessly dying quickly with no hope of tomorrow And the last days of his life filled with sorrow © 2012 kristalruthFeatured Review
