Hot and Cold

Hot and Cold

A Poem by Kristin Lee
"

The extremes of emotion

"

Trapped beneath the surface

It’s so cold

Lips are turning blue

If I don’t get some air…

Stretching

Reaching

Fist finally breaks through

This isn’t what I wanted

It’s so hot

Burned by the heat of passion

Emotions rush through

A very good use of contrast to give the picture or reveal the message. Well done...:)

"This isn't what I wanted"-- I love what this line does for your poem.

So often we long for something; yearn with our entire beings until we finally achieve it and realize that it wasn't what we expected. The metaphorical use of hot and cold in this way is quite clever. We are too cold when we are lonely, but sometimes we are burned by the emotions that come with connection. It's a nice juxtaposition.

Exactly, the grass is not always greener on the other side. Thanks so much for the feedback!
The term "Breaking the ice" comes to mind as I read this. But often we do so only to find that "Too hot to handle" is the phrase that then comes to mind. Very cool, I mean warm, I mean...well you know what I mean
