Prologue

shows hjordis and angelo both struggling with their own plights. more or less showing how hjordis becomes a vamp.

Hjordis huddled and shivered under the covers though there was a roaring fire not far from her.  A servant girl rung out a cloth over a basin of water. Reaching over to mop the sweat from Hjordis' brow, "Poor Mistress" she whispered.

As Angelo came into the room, a coughing fit over came Hjordis, he quickened his pace, he was at her side in seconds.

Hjordis stops coughing finally, she looks up to see Angelo.  Shakely she reaches up to touch his cold cheek.  "Don't frown my angie, please."

"How can I not. My little one, you are everything to me.  It tears me apart to see you suffer." Angelo said, covering her hand with his own.

An emotion not common to him crossed his face dissappearing behind his normal blankness but Hjordis caught it. "It's alright Angie I am not afraid to die." she started coughing again the force of it causing her to clutch at her chest.  Angelo slides in behind her craddling her against him to help absorb some of the force.  The coughing eased then stopped, Angelo reached over taking the cloth from the servant girl and said, "Go Maria I'll watch over her for a while."  Maria curtsied and made a quick retreat.

Easing out from behind Hjordis he gentle layed her back into the pile of pillows.

"How did your business meeting go?" Hjordis asked tugging weakly at the covers.

"Not as well as i'd hoped." His tone was as nonchalant but the frustrated look betrayed it. He pulled the covers up for her tucking her in snuggly.

"Well I'm sure you'll think of something." Hjordis smiled at him, her eyes fluttering closed.

Angelo knelt on the floor beside her bed for a long while. She twitched and whimpered in her sleep.  Hjordis wasn't going to get better, constantine had said no, the stubborn old fool.  He couldn't lose her, he'd grown to love her like a daughter.  His mind whirled with plans, things to safe guard them both.  She'd need training, he'd send out letters then he'd need a supply of fresh blood.  He stood up, bent down kissed her forehead and whispered "hang on just alittle longer my little one." Angelo then turned and left the room. Maria was sitting dosing in the hall, he gentle touched her shoulder. She woke looking up at him, "watch her please i have some work to do."

"Yes my lord." Maria replied getting up heading for the door.

Angelo had been in his study for some time when Maria rushed in, doing a hasty curtsy, "Excuse me my lord but mistress is awake asking for you." Curstsing again she hurried out not waiting for him.

As Angelo came through Hjordis' door he heard her scream out, this had him to her side within seconds.  Looking up at maria "What's wrong?"

"she says her chest hurts." she looked just as worried as he did.

"damn" his mind came quickly to a decision, "thank you maria, you may go I will watch over her tonite."

"are you sure my lord?" Maria asked.

"I am sure. Albert will be glad to have you home early."

"thank you my lord, am sure he will." Maria said backing off the bed, bowed and made her way out.

Angelo looked down at the panting Hjordis. Brushing back her damp hair he says softly "My little one can you hear me?"

"Yes" she said, turning her head and opening her eyes blinking at him trying to focus on him.

"You remember a few years ago I told you what i was?" he paused, she nooded so he continued."I'm giving you a choice I can change you into a vampire like me or you can say no."

"we'd be together and I'd get no older?"

"Yes you would not age and we'd be together." Angelo said, part of him wanted her to say no, but the other part prayed she'd say yes, that part being the stronger of the two.

"blood, no real food ever." she said this more of a statement then asking a question.

Angelo just shook his head yes, he waited severl minutes he was almost afraid she'd fallen asleep or worse.

"Angelo I wish for you to make me like you.  I have no family save you."

Smiling, he stroked her cheek, he took her arm bringing it to his lips. He looked down and said, "I wish i could say this wouldn't hurt but I can't lie to you."

I think it's a really good start. The emotions are very strong and it sets up the story. It's a little rough, a few spelling mistakes here or there. Also the setting (time period) is a little vague to the reader but nothing that can't be fleshed out. I can't wait to read more of this story, there so much potential here! Great write!
