The morality of abortion is a controversial issue as some mothers think it is wrong but others believe that they have the right to decide what happens to them and their baby but others believe that it is a life no matter how old and it should not be aborted.

Firstly, in this day and age where one night stands and forgetting to take ‘the pill’ ends up with many women falling pregnant, surely it is a woman’s right to decide if she wants to get an abortion or not, it is her body after all. If a woman is not capable of caring for a baby, won’t it just be better for her to abort it before it is even born then put it through torture after the baby is born? This could be argued with the fact that no one has the right to kill a life and this could be stated as murder.

Significantly, in terms of safety of a woman, there is nothing wrong with it. As compared to birth, it's safer and healthier for the woman. In the most objective sense, it is right: it causes no harm to the living, breathing, thinking people who have a personal identity and are aware of themselves. For example women who have been affected by rape or incest, they have been through so much trauma already, do they really need to be reminded of this in the form of a baby? If a woman is not ready to bring up a baby, she is not ready and no one can change that. Nevertheless, abortion should not be used as a form or birth control as if women don’t want to end up with a baby they should use contraception, but as a way to save the mother’s life, physical and mental health.

Furthermore, nearly all abortion occurs in the first three months of a pregnancy, when a foetus cannon exist independent of its mother. The foetus is just a collection of cells and is attached to its mother via the umbilical cord and placenta. Therefore the foetus cannot be regarded as a separate being as it cannot exist outside the mother’s womb. No civilized society permits one human to intentionally harm or take the life of another human without punishment, and abortion is no different.

Abortions can be a very hard issue to talk about and there are many views on if abortions should be legal or not. It is usually a person’s own belief and their experiences that determine what they feel towards abortions and their morals.
