Still live is the representation of inanimate things or objects such as fruit or flowers, in painting or photography. Still live is a painting what features a layout of lifeless day by day objects, if biological objects. From the day of ancient Greeks and Romans, people used to personalize their house with attractive illustrations of fruit and flowers.

 

The first paintings I have chosen to look at in this essay is the Jug and yellow. It was painted by Samuel John Peploe in 1911. He used oil on canvas to create the painting.

The second painting I have chosen to look at in this essay is Elizabeth Blackadder Cats and Flowers, 1981 Watercolour on canvas

 

The first artist that intends to tell you about is Samuel john peploe who was born Friday 27 January 1871 and died on Friday 11 October 1935. He studied at the Scottish academy schools from 1893 to 1894 and then studied at the academie Julian and academie Colarossi in Paris, France.  He was in a group of Scottish artists who most of them was born and brought up in or near Edinburgh the three other people who were in the group of artists are Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell Edinburgh (1883-1937), John Duncan Fergusson Edinburgh (1874 �" 1961) and George Leslie Hunter isle of Bute (1877 �" 1931) and the group name were called the Scottish colourists. The Scottish colourists was training in Paris France

 

 

Dame Elisabeth violet Blackadder who was born in Falkirk Scotland and was born in 1931 and lived through world war (II) and went to Falkirk high school.  She studied as a Scottish printer and printmaker in her young age. In 1962 she teached art at the Edinburgh art collage where she retired in the late 1980s. She is currently 81 years old and still going and is currently living in Edinburgh

 

As the first paint I chose was the jug and yellow created by Samuel john peploe which was made with oil pastels. The painting looks rough and smooth at the same time. What I could see in it is a kindly coloured jug with a bowl of fruit and a blue pot with a half bowl at the right hand side. On my opinion it looks realistic but has a little abstract in it.

 

As the second painting I chose is the cats and flowers whisk was water colour on paper. The picture looks to have a tiger cat and several vases with flowers in them and I also looks as if there is picnic food in there as well the painting doesn’t have a colorful background which would look a bit better but the painting has good colors in it.

 

 

 

 What I think that on this painting is that peploe has used the oil pastel quite heavily and makes the painting stand out and looks really good and makes it look like a colorful painting but has a little too much weight on the half bowl.

 

This painting used watercolor and was made on a board. The painting and the cat is a nice texture the tone of the cat is like as if the colour was black then it went to a light brown. That makes it look alike to a real tiger cat which has a dark brown and light brown fur.

 

 

The painting makes me think as if I am look like at a real table with an actual milk jug with a pot and a fruit stand a blue bowl. It makes me feel as if I was at my house looking at it looks really true to life and looks overwhelming.

The water color looks perfect as if she placed the elements together and drawing and painting it with healthy expended ensign.

 

I can really see a good line pattern on the jug especially the

smoothness of the jug it’s self. The pot has a nice surface too it as well how ever the inside of the pot looks coarse the fruit is a bit coarse.

 

 

The cat in the painting looks so silky and soft and the plants look so liner a

And the cat looks is if the cat has melted into the painting which makes it look meticulous. The plant at the bottom left side doesn’t make it look accomplished.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

One of the differences is the two paintings have a dissimilar color schemes one of then embraced there painting with different shades blue the picture and the other has set colour. As well as Peploe uses a more natural concept thater than Blackadder has more of a fictional plate the reason why I seen that is because a cat would not sit on top a vase.
