Nickel Plated Soul

Nickel Plated Soul

A Poem by J. James Reider

Go ahead.....

Take your best shot.

Can you even dent....

My nickel plated soul?

My soul is not polished

not refined at all....

Tarnished for your eyes to behold,

not as pretty or as soft as gold.

I wish it were made of iron....

I would even settle for steel....

Though nickel does just fine,

on this battered soul of mine.

Took me years to mold it....

Chiseled and welded with every love lost

nicked and scratched from abuse

time has told me that silver was no use.

Though I have a jaw of granite...

Barbs to my heart hurt much more

then getting hit in the mouth ever could

so I ask why you ever would?

Hurt me

Try to tear me apart

It is better to have lost in love

when you have a nickel plated soul.

The metaphorical perception is spot on,
the passionate flow, captivating,
I felt myself taken by the concept
Is classic and original,
this is one of the coolest poems 've read in a while
choice detail accentuates the image
great job and thanks for sharing

Absolutely outstanding work!

"Though I have a jaw of granite...
Barbs to my heart hurt much more
then getting hit in the mouth ever could
so I ask why you ever would?..."

So I ask why you ever would.... yes...
why would they?

I love this! Nickel plated...

Brilliant..

Nickel plated soul
Rereading this one can see
the dynamics of what brought upon
the nickel plating
feels like it could speak
to most people
as I'm sure we all have
a bit of nickle in the chemestry
of our making-as your poem suggests

I like this James. Perhaps a retort for something deeper? Hmmm, methinks so. On some level here, I can relate myself.

I really dig this part:

"My soul is not polished

not refined at all....

Tarnished for your eyes to behold,

not as pretty or as soft as gold."

That one spoke to me the most. Excellent work!

Great form and metaphor. The title was well brought out in the deeper message of the poem.

Good choice of words, rhythm, and visuals.

A very good piece
