Forest of Eden - Part Two - Through the Portal

Forest of Eden - Part Two - Through the Portal

A Chapter by K.N. Thorn

Kit flew through the archway, its symbols glowing even stronger now, the portal was open and she had to pump her wings hard to keep up with the raven. Persephone, my mother, how can that be. I was just starting to think that I wasn't dreaming; but maybe I am. There was a burst of light and Kit found herself someplace that didn't even look like it could be real, the colors were vibrant and fresh there was not  a sign of the dingy decay and rot like what had littered the city.

They had traveled to an open temple, in the greenest forest Kit had ever seen. Persephone began to glow again; changing and shifting into a human form once more, Kit was beginning to do the same. When they had both transformed, Kit started spouting questions too quickly to answer or even hear.

"Slow down my little love, we are safe here," her voice was soothing, Kit couldn't help but obey.

"Are you really my mother? How come I never knew of you?"

"Yes I am little love. I was only trying to protect you from your father, the inhumane beast."

"My father, you said he was Hades, the God of the Dead."

"Yes my dear, he has found you, I truly fear what this means." Persephone then shed a single tear, only one other person new about Kit, they must have betrayed her. Either willingly or by torture, it was still a betrayal.

"Don't cry momma," Kit wiped away her tear gently. "What does he want from me? Why now?"

"He will try and imprison you surely, just like he has done to me. I didn't want that life for you, I wanted you to feel the sunshine and breath fresh air, each and everyday."

Kit smiled at her mother, "Well it was usually rainy and the air was very foul, it is much nicer here. Why didn't you just bring me here in the first place?"

"This is Eden little love," Persephone smiled back at her daughter, what a beautiful young woman she had become. "You can only get here after your powers are awakened and it looks like yours have, even if you didn't know it."

"What powers? I am far from special, I can assure you." Kit got nervous then.

"You are very special my love, you couldn't have changed and entered such a sacred place had you not had the power. Yet, here you are. So tell me, how it is you are not special little one?"

Kit couldn't find an answer. How did she turn into a bird? Persephone had done that, didn't she?
Could she really do something so extraordinary?

"Would you really want to live here?" Kit's mother had broken the silence.

"Yes of course, it is so beautiful here!" Kit broke out in a wide smile.

"Then follow me little love." Persephone exited the open temple and followed a path that lead into the rich, green forest.
