discover the impossibility

i've often looked at women passing by

wondered about the possibilities and

how my inhibitions would affect them

call me a romantic call me hopeless

i stopped counting the stars long ago

it's not that i can't engage

i'm just fickle about the circumstances

surely somebody out there can recognize

the guy playing soccer with the kids

what he could potentially be

for the longest time i dated women

their mothers liked me more than they did

maybe i made the wrong choices

maybe fate kicked me in the teeth once or twice

surely i'm not a part of possibility

maybe this is a cruel poet's lot

write about romance but never know it

hold me to my words and

i will make you a castle made out of meter and rhyme

and we will look up and discover stars again
