the devil you know

the devil you know

A Poem by knightcall

i carved your name into the water
threw my guitar in the stream
banged my head against the wind
lit my Bic and burned all my sins

the preacher tells me i'm not absolved
sorry padre, i consider the problem solved

Rebecca the way you have to move
gets me down on my knees
and the floor starts to groove
the pews empty and the exiting scream
"El Diablo, El Diablo"
i had to stand there
the sacramental wine shining in my grin

i cartwheeled down the aisle with the speed of an impulse
i checked the remaining parishioner for a pulse

one woman led me down this road
i realize this is neither
the greatest or the most original story ever told

they explained me away as a nightmare
because i took them places they never would dare
imagine their surprise
falling asleep Sunday morning
when they did open their eyes
it was me on the altar
confessing all their lies

I so love this. Again, my ink spills under and beneath another great poem that you've so wonderfully wrote

What a powerful ending to this poem. Brilliantly penned!!

I don't know where to begin. As I read I picture a man with options weighing him down. I am not sure if that is the correct assumption. I also pick up on a few hints of despair. Again I am not sure if that is just me or something you intended. All in all it was another good read!

Oh my Sir Knight what a tale you have woven! My favorite part has to be :

i cartwheeled down the aisle with the speed of an impulse
i checked the remaining parishioner for a pulse

Well done! Keep on penning.
