R..E...S...P.....

A Poem by knightcall

where did i go today
i must have misplaced me
because now you can pour me
all the energy is out of this mercury
and now my suit is looking a little cheap
all rumpled when it used to be neat

i must have fallen in love with a hundred girls
on the drive in this morning
if only for a moment
i liked the way that you sweat
objects of art in motion
let me recognize your mind
i need to complete the picture
complete the circle of the art

no one can begrudge me a fantasy
when most of my time is not my own
the fountains i pass look so sweet
i play this game of borrowing time
only to be trapped in a purple elevator with
a man with a mean streak and his suck-up sidekick
how do you prefer to go by razor or
would you prefer a more personal touch

i'm not asking for much in this plunge to reality
Aretha asked for it a long time before me
i see the look and your eye and
i know the personal grenades are coming
makes me want to jump from the fifth floor
stick the landing behind the wheel
punch the gas and escape a new respect
